Now that Emma is officially Sheriff of Storybrooke, I was expecting to see a few intense scenes between Emma & Regina. Sunday night’s episode played into this new work relationship and I have a feeling it will begin to develop even further.
At the beginning of the episode in Fairytale world, we meet Hansel & Gretel and relearn their story, except in this version, the evil queen plays a key role since she is the one who sent them into the house to deceive the witch. Since they are successfully able to complete the task, the evil queen offers them the chance to live with her and when they refuse, she transports them back into the woods with only their father’s faithful compass to find the way.
In Storybrooke, Hansel & Gretel are now two young children who are living alone in an abandoned house after their mother died. After they trick Henry into stealing food for them, both Regina and Emma are now involved with their situation. Emma is determined to locate their father, since she knows he must live in Storybrook (since new people do not come in or out). Regina, on the other hand wants Emma to send them to child services in Boston.
When Emma is able to locate their father (with the help of Mr. Gold, after showing him the compass the little girl has held on too) he is not interested in being father and refuses to meet them. Emma does a bit of convincing and ultimately, on their way out of Storybrooke, he agrees to take care of the children. Emma’s convincing is played into the fact of giving up Henry and how she feels about it now. She lies to Henry about who his real father was, and admits to “Snow White” he was not a very good man ( I hope there is more to that later on)
At the end of the episode, a handsome stranger makes their way into Storybooke, and we are reminded again that new people can’t come in, so this must be another character or someone who knows about the curse…will this be a new love interest for Emma?
The overall concept of this show keeps me curious even though parts can be extremely cheesy. Similar to Lost, the characters are interesting and the acting is excellent. A lot of questions come to mind after each episode, so it will be fascinating to see how they tackle that. Next week is all about Snow White & Prince Charming!
